Legends of the Court

Basketball Tournament

Legends of the Court is The Nubian Circle’s annual basketball event focused on creating a real platform for athletes across Maryland to compete, be seen, and be supported by their community.

What started as a tournament has grown into a multi-level event that brings together men’s teams, high school players, and youth athletes all in one space.

A graphic titled 'The Nubian Circle: Legends of the Court' displays logos of basketball teams, including Malcolm X Mavericks, Marcus Garvey Kings, Fred Hampton Panthers, Kwame Rumble Knights, and others. The logos feature stylized portraits of civil rights leaders and symbolic imagery in various colors.

Legends of the Court

Legends of the Court is a basketball event built around bringing people together through the game. It creates a space where youth players, high school talent, and competitive runs all exist in the same environment, allowing different levels of the game to connect naturally. More than anything, it’s about creating an experience that feels intentional where the basketball is competitive, but the community around it matters just as much.

Year One

St. Frances Academy — Baltimore, Maryland

Legends of the Court began at St. Frances Academy with a simple goal: create a basketball experience that felt competitive, community-centered, and intentional from the moment people walked in.

The first year brought together men’s teams from across the area for a full day of scheduled games, local vendors, music, and community engagement. Juice vendors were on-site, supporters moved in and out throughout the day, and the gym carried the energy of something new being built with purpose.

It was the foundation year. A first step toward turning Legends of the Court into more than a tournament into a platform for basketball, culture, and community to meet in one space.

Year Two

St. Vincent Pallotti High School — Maryland

The Washington Wizards joined as a partner, bringing a new level of visibility and intention to the event.

This year also introduced the Maryland High School All-Star Game and an 8th grade showcase, creating a full-day experience that brought together multiple levels of the game in one space. From emerging youth talent to high school standouts, the event was designed to give each group a platform while keeping the energy connected throughout the day.

Legends of the Court became a space where basketball and community exist side by side
